Kathy Griffin: "Suck it, Jesus!"

Ha! I love Kathy Griffin. Apparently she made some "offensive" remarks when she accepted her Emmy award:

Comic Kathy Griffin's "offensive" remarks about Jesus at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards will be cut from a pre-taped telecast of the show, the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said on Tuesday.

Griffin made the provocative comment on Saturday night as she took the stage of the Shrine Auditorium to collect her Emmy for best reality program for her Bravo channel show "My Life on the D-List."

"A lot of people come up here and thank Jesus for this award. I want you to know that no one had less to do with this award than Jesus," an exultant Griffin said, holding up her statuette. "Suck it, Jesus. This award is my god now."

Asked about her speech backstage a short time later, an unrepentant Griffin added, "I hope I offended some people. I didn't want to win the Emmy for nothing."

Hilarious.

I do think it is ridiculous that they are editing out her comments. What ever happened to free speech??

RIP James Kennedy

Well, not really.

It's when the crazy fundies die that I really wish there were a god and a judgement day. I would love to see the faces of Falwell and Kennedy when they meet their maker and he says, "What the hell were you thinking?!"

I think that if there were a god, he would be horrified at what the fundies have done in his name. The hypocrisy, the divisiveness, the "us vs. them" mentality that is now seemingly backfiring, thank god ;-). I don't think that would be this big guy in the sky's message. If that Jesus dude did exist, he was more of a hippie-type than a rich republican. Yet, the RR nutjobs decided to overlook that small part of christianity. To hell (literally) with those who are not right-wing nutjobs like them. Ah, if only there were a god. . . and we could get the pearly gates on live feed.

Pastor had sex with daughters to teach how to be wives

A fundamentalist church pastor had sex with two of his teenage daughters to educate them on how to be good wives, a South Australian court has heard.


The 54-year-old man, who cannot be named, was yesterday sentenced in the SA District Court to eight and a half years jail after pleading guilty to seven counts each of incest and unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard that the man had sex with his daughters for nearly a decade from 1991 when they were aged 13 and 15 at the family property.

The sex took place at various locations including in a shearer's shed, a paddock, on the back of a ute and, on one occasion, at the girls' grandparents house.

The man told the court the sex was not about fulfilling his desires but about teaching his daughters how to behave for their husbands when they eventually married, as dictated in scripture.

In sentencing, Judge David Lovell said the misrepresentation of scripture used to justify the abuse of the girls "defied belief", and that he had "hypocritically betrayed" his religion and principles.

"You said the acts were about learning about sex rather than engaging in the acts of sex," Judge Lovell said.

"I do not accept that.

"You treated your daughters as your property. . . using them to satisfy and gratify your sexual urges."

Judge Lovell gave full credit for the man's guilty pleas, saying he was genuinely remorseful and had a good chance of rehabilitation as his wife and the church remained supportive.

The man will be eligible for parole in four years.

Where do I even start??

The part I absolutely cannot get over is that his wife and his church "remain supportive". Are you freaking kidding me?? This sick son of a bitch rapes his daughters for YEARS, uses religion as an excuse, and it's okay? He gets a slap on the wrist and will come out of prison to the open arms of his wife and parishioners. In-freaking-sane. I am completely dumbfounded.

(Oh, and what the hell is a ute?)

Choosing to be Stupid

"Interestingly, many of those who reject natural selection recognize that scientists themselves fully accept Darwin's theory. In the same 2006 Pew poll, nearly two-thirds of adults (62%) say that they believe that scientists agree on the validity of evolution. Moreover, Americans, including religious Americans, hold science and scientists in very high regard.

So what is at work here? How can Americans say that they respect science and even know what scientists believe and yet still disagree with the scientific community on some fundamental questions? The answer is that much of the general public simply chooses not to believe the scientific theories and discoveries that seem to contradict long-held religious or other important beliefs.

When asked what they would do if scientists were to disprove a particular religious belief, nearly two-thirds (64%) of people say they would continue to hold to what their religion teaches rather than accept the contrary scientific finding, according to the results of an October 2006 Time magazine poll. Indeed, in a May 2007 Gallup poll, only 14% of those who say they do not believe in evolution cite lack of evidence as the main reason underpinning their views; more people cite their belief in Jesus (19%), God (16%) or religion generally (16%) as their reason for rejecting Darwin's theory."

So, there is no hope. How do you educate people who choose to be ignorant of facts?? Anyone??
